Red Fabric Waves

Prudence Brindley

I am only now lurching into this craft called writing so it will be a while before I have anything to substantive to contribute. I decided to claim my spot on this website because it is the right place for me to present my work.  It allows me to reach out beyond the bounds of civility.  My work is compatible with the tone of this website and some of gladys’ way of thinking. I take women out of their traditional submissive postures pleasing men and depict them pleasing themselves.   I am inspired by Dominique Aury’s The Story of O. Like gladys’ Revenge of the Handmaids, I want to turn the female submissiveness depicted in Aury’s book on its head and put the women in charge of their erotic desires in a straight forward role reversal.   Much is being done in the psychological and physical realms to help women build self-confidence at home and in their careers, and women are moving forward as professional athletes, almost unheard of in much of the 20th century. Very few writers deal with sexuality or even sensuality because in spite of lifting the ban on writers like Mark Twain, and evolving nudity and explicit sexual acts in movies, those topics are still taboo. We must move away from the job of the prostitute being to please the client, and as some argued mid-20th century the obligation of the heterosexual wife to please her husband. The women in my work move toward discovery and awareness of their own sexuality: needs, desires, and sources of pleasure.
